At Silverfire UK, we design and manufacture heirloom-quality, custom gothic jewellery and heavy biker pieces directly from our artisan workshop in Sussex, UK. The Lost-Wax Casting & Commission Process
Our custom journey follows four clear stages:
1. The Brief & Consultation: You submit your ideas, references, or rough sketches via our inquiry form below. We discuss sizing, weight expectations, and metal preferences (925 Silver, 9ct Gold, or 18ct Gold).
2. Cost Estimate & Secure Payment: Using the specific details from your enquiry, we will calculate a cost estimate and provide an estimated timeframe for your commission. Once you accept the quote and submit your payment, your project enters our active workshop queue. We then move onto stage three - the design, sketching, and sculpting process.
3. Jewellery Design & Visual Concepts : We will explore your options, symbols, and concepts using a mix of traditional hand-drawn sketches or computer-generated designs. Your final approval is always required before we move to the forge.
4. The Production / forge:
- The Wax Master Carving: Most designs are meticulously carved into a physical wax model by hand or tailored to your precise geometric specifications.
- The Kiln & Forging: Using the ancient lost-wax method, molten precious metal replaces the wax, creating a solid, dense, heavy metal piece with zero hollow points. Other designs might require hand forging metal shaping with solid metal.
- Hallmarking & Finishing: Your custom piece is oxidised for high-contrast shadow detailing, polished to your preferred finish, and sent to the UK Assay Office for official purity hallmarking.
Commission Timelines & Budgets
- Minimum Turnaround: Custom commissions typically require 8 to 12 weeks, although can take longer depending on how much design work is required, and depending on complexity and assay scheduling. You will always be given an estimation of the turnaround at the very beginning of the process.
- Shipping: Secure, fully insured shipping is available. All UK custom orders include tracked, signed-for delivery.
